Monthly Virtual Nutrition Education

At TRIO Community Meals, we understand the importance of nutrition education. For that reason, we provide monthly e-newsletters to all partners, including nutrition education handouts for you to share with your communities; Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) moments and resources; health and wellness articles relative to the aging population; and more.

An example of monthly nutrition education is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month. One in every ten people over age 65, or 5.8 million Americans, is inflicted with Alzheimer’s and dementia. Making healthy choices will help support cognitive health today and in the future. The four keys to supporting brain health are eating, exercising, sleeping, and connecting. The nutrition education handouts provided are in English, Chinese, and Spanish to allow TRIO partners to disseminate the content to their communities. Please see the examples.

Nutrition Education Programs

Bewell

At TRIO Community Meals, we recognize the impact food makes on the health and wellness of the senior community. The BeWell Teaching Kitchen is a live learning workshop connecting food to health. It highlights TRIO’s understanding of the importance of meeting seniors where they are with regionally inspired curated menus, medically tailored meals, and various options.

The Culinary Institute of America and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health established the teaching kitchen approach. The experience allows seniors to socialize and gain knowledge to improve their health and wellness. This special event draws seniors to your senior site, thus boosting participation.

TRIO designed each workshop for participants to connect a food’s ability to prevent a specific health issue relevant to older adults. Focus topics include brain health, heart health, muscle building, immune boost, and other topics impacting a senior’s lifestyle.

Ask A Dietitian

Ask a Dietitian is a program that connects seniors with a registered dietitian nutritionist that promotes health and well-being. TRIO dietitians are here to take nutrition education a step further by assisting seniors in making educated food choices that meet their nutrition and wellness goals or answering questions related to special diet needs.

In addition to sharing answers to the most prevalent questions seniors ask, participants can ask questions.

Meal Production

Meal Production

Meal production can take place in a TRIO-owned culinary operation center or a client-owned kitchen. Our production kitchens are filled with caring team members who play an important role in nourishing seniors. These team members are committed to providing each senior with quality meals full of flavor and nutrition.

Procurement is the foundation for quality meal production. Procurement safeguards that menu ingredients are good quality and available to meet production demands for large meal quantities. TRIO uses quality ingredients to prepare our chef-inspired recipes in local kitchens. Thus, delivering a quality, yet cost-effective meal.

Logistics

Logistics

TRIO Community Meals performs logistical plans with precision. Reliable delivery and efficient meal routing are at the core of our logistics plan for congregate sites and home-bound seniors. Congregate sites receive meals at a consistent daily time allowing for site activity plans.  Home-bound seniors are assured of receiving their meals with TRIO’s consistent delivery schedule.

TRIO customizes the logistics plan for each program. Our logistics team can deliver meals to congregate site and home-bound senior homes or prepare packaged meals for pick-up and delivery by volunteers.

Menu Development

Menu Development

TRIO meals not only taste good and appeal to seniors, but also meet all regulatory requirements to provide 1/3 DRI requirements. TRIO’s director of culinary & innovation, registered dietitian and local management team create custom regional menus that are nutritionally balanced yet rich in variety and flavor. TRIO Holiday and Special Event menus keep seniors engaged and excited about the congregate program. Seniors who require special diet meals are often more at-risk because they are, at times, unable to perform the unique preparation of their meals. TRIO Registered Dietitians and on-site teams accommodate special diets of these seniors to reflect regional preferences. We provide a variety of fresh, chilled and frozen meals for congregate centers and home delivered meals.
